Jangansa Temple

A quiet temple located at the foot of the beautiful Bulgwangsan Mountain in the northern part of Gijang-gun, Busan.

Jangansa Temple in Bulgwangsan Mountain, 659 meters above sea level, was founded in the 13th year of King Munmu of Silla (673) and was called Ssanggyesa Temple, but it is said to have been renamed Jangansa Temple during King Aejang of Silla (809).

During the Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592, all the mountain temples were destroyed, and in 1631, it was rebuilt by Great Master Woljo in the 8th year of King Injo of the Joseon Dynasty, and in 1987, it was rebuilt again.

In the precincts of Jangansa Temple, there are Daeungjeon Hall, Myeongbujeon Hall, Eungjinjeon Hall, and Sansingak Pavilion, and it was designated as a traditional temple in 1988. Passing through the Cheonwangmun Gate, where the Four Heavenly Kings are located, there is Daeungjeon Hall, which enshrines Sakyamuni Buddha, Hubulbulhwa, and Sinjungbulhwa in front of it, Eungjinjeon Hall on the left, and Myeongbujeon Hall on the right.

Daeungjeon Hall, which enshrines the main Buddha, was designated as Gyeongsangnam-do Monument No. 118 on December 28, 1974 as an octagonal roof and two on the side, and was re-designated as Busan Metropolitan City Monument No. 37 on March 1, 1995. Right in front of Daeungjeon Hall, there is a three-story stone pagoda with seven Sakyamuni Jinsinsari, and Sansingak Pavilion is located in the bamboo forest behind Daeungjeon Hall.

Daeungjeon Hall was built in 1654 during the Joseon Dynasty and is designated as Treasure No. 1771, and there is a Seated Stone Buddha Triad of Gijang Jangansa Temple, Treasure No. 1606.
