Hello, Gyeongju, about an hour away from Busan, is also called the Blue Sky Museum or the Roofless Museum because precious relics that live and breathe Silla culture and traditions are scattered throughout the streets.

The Gyeongju National Museum is preserving and exhibiting the splendid cultural heritage of ancient Silla discovered in Gyeongju, and the Gyeongju National Institute of Cultural Heritage is in charge of discovering and conducting academic research on Silla cultural assets in Gyeongju.ocated in the middle of Bulguksa Temple of Tohamsan Mountain and Bulguksa Station on the East Sea Southern Line, the Gyeongju National Cultural Heritage Research Institute began as the Michuwangneung District Excavation Survey Group established in 1973 and changed its name to Gyeongju National Cultural Heritage Research Institute in August 2005.

The Gyeongju National Institute of Cultural Heritage demolished the ruins of a large area near the ancient tomb park, as well as Bunhwangsa Temple, which was built during the Three Kingdoms period, Sacheonwangsa Temple next to Gyeongju National Road No. 7, Wolseong moat, known as the site of Silla’s unification, and Silla’s royal palace.

All the excavation sites in Gyeongju that we can see during the Gyeongju tour are being carried out at this research center. It is also a small exhibition hall of the Gyeongju National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage, where you can see relics that cannot be seen in museums.

When you enter the lab on the first floor of the traditional Korean tiled roof, there is a management room on the left and a small exhibition room on the right. The entrance to the exhibition room is easy, but you are usually supposed to enter with your name on the guest book in front of the entrance to the exhibition room.

The institute’s exhibition hall is open only on weekdays from Monday to Friday, so it’s good to take a look around instead of the Gyeongju National Museum, which is closed on Monday, and it’s recommended for those interested in ancient Korean artifacts!
