Seoul Bangi-dong Tombs

Ancient tombs of Baekje and Silla in the Han River basin in Seoul

Hello, there is an ancient tomb of the Three Kingdoms period about 1.8km southeast of Jamsil, where the Lotte World Tower in Seoul is located. The tombs in Bangi-dong, Seoul, spread out in the hilly area around Bangi-dong, Songpa-gu, which are presumed to have had the capital in the early days of Baekje, the ancient nation, have eight tombs and are neatly maintained so that citizens can take a walk.

When Bangi-dong Ancient Tomb was first identified in September 1917, it was known as the early Baekje Ancient Tombs because there were Pungnaptoseong and Mongchontoseong in the early Baekje Period, but three of the eight ancient tombs were excavated in 1976 and Silla earthenware was found.

Tomb No. 1, where the inside of the tomb is open to the public

Passing through the main gate of Baekje Ancient Tombs in Bangi-dong and climbing the stairs, you can see the peaks one after another on a gentle slope. The first, second, third, and sixth tombs are located on the northwest hill, and fourth, fifth, seventh, and eighth tombs are located in the southeast.

Bangi Dongbaekje Ancient Tombs investigated or excavated four of the eight tombs identified, namely, No. 1, 4, 5, and 6. As a result, Tomb No. 1, 4, and 6 were generally found to be cross-blooded stone chamber tombs made after the 5th century, and Tomb No. 5 was identified as a stone coffin tomb using a thin split of natural stone.

The Baekje Ancient Tombs in Bangi-dong, located in the Han River basin in Seoul, are suspected to be Baekje or Silla tombs, but they are a glimpse of the international relations between the two countries over the Han River basin.
