On the hill overlooking the Gangguan of Tongyeong Port, a pavilion called Dongporu by General Yi Sun-sin and Control Young (Joseon Naval Command) is restored during the Japanese Invasion of Korea in 1592, and the hill village is decorated with various pretty murals, attracting Dongpirang Mural Village. Dongpirang has the meaning of an eastern cliff.

In the past, there were plans to demolish shabby houses on this hill to preserve Admiral Yi Sun-sin’s control site, but now it has become a representative tourist attraction in Tongyeong City with the start of a mural project involving many artists in 2007.
