hello. The Wanggung-ri site, located about 6 km from Mireuksa Temple Site in Iksan, is known to be an important royal palace site built during the late Baekje period, when it was directly related to the Baekje royal family.

In 1989, the first excavation project of the National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage in Buyeo started and the site of Wanggung-ri, which is still actively excavated, has a large-scale building site, a garden, a workshop, and a toilet inside a rectangular stone wall measuring about 490 meters from north to south and 240 meters from east to west. Various relics have been excavated, and it is presumed that, like the name of Wanggung-ri, there was a royal palace in the Baekje period or a related facility suitable for it.

The Wanggung-ri Remains Exhibition Hall, opened in 1989, is divided into five areas: Baekje Buildings, Royal Palace Life, the Conversion of a Royal Palace to a Temple, and the Baekje Royal Palace. As the outer walls and remains of buildings remain, it is an important historical site where you can understand the construction process of the ancient royal palace and the life of the royal family.

After exiting the exhibition hall and walking to the right, there is a five-story stone pagoda in Wanggung-ri (National Treasure No. 289). Considering that a sari device made in the Goryeo period was excavated during the 1965 renovation, it is said to be an early Goryeo stone pagoda that added some of the Silla pagoda style to the Baekje system stone pagoda style. Although the construction date is estimated, there is much controversy about the exact date of construction. In the vicinity of the stone pagoda, relics of temples from the Unified Silla period, such as Geumdangji and Gangdangji, were confirmed.
