Gongju City is located almost in the center of Chungcheongnam-do and is about 140 kilometers away from Seoul. It was the capital of Baekje from 475 to 538 until it moved to Buyeo. Every October, the Baekje Cultural Festival, one of the three major cultural festivals in Korea, is held in Gongju-si and Buyeo-gun.

Gongsanseong Fortress in the Baekje period was originally Saturn, but it was rebuilt as a stone fortress as it is now during the Joseon Dynasty’s King Seonjo and King Injo, and the lights are turned on at night so you can enjoy the night atmosphere of Baekje culture. And in Songsan-ri Ancient Tombs, located near Gongsanseong Fortress, there are seven Baekje tombs, including the tomb of King Muryeong, the 25th king of Baekje.

Gyeryongsan Mountain, located in the southeastern part of Gongju City, was named because the shape of the mountain’s ridge resembles a dragon wearing a chicken government post on its head, and is also known as a mountain with good energy not only in natural scenery but also in feng shui.

In 2015, Gongsanseong Fortress and Songsan-ri Ancient Tombs in Baekje Historic Areas were registered as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
