Busan Cultural Foundation Resumes Exchange of Joseon Tongsinsa in Japan

The Busan Cultural Foundation announced on the 9th that it has resumed exchanges of Joseon Tongsinsa in Japan for the first time in three years, which had been suspended after the spread of COVID-19.

The delegation of the Cultural Foundation visited Tsushima Island and Shimonoseki in Japan for four days from the 5th to confirm their willingness to resume cultural exchanges through the Joseon Tongsinsa.

Daema Island, Japan, is geographically closest to Korea, and as the first port of call for Joseon Tongsinsa in Japan, the Ikuhara Port Festival was held on the first Saturday and Sunday of August every year, and Shimonoseki City held the Bakang Festival every year on the third Saturday and Sunday of August.

During the festival, exchanges between the two people were made based on the spirit of the "Sungshin Gyo-rin" of the Joseon Tongsinsa through reenactment of the Joseon Tongsinsa procession and exchange performances.

As the Umwon Port Festival, which had been suspended since 2019, resumed in three years this year, discussions were held on the business agreement of the Joseon Tongsinsa's History Museum and the fifth anniversary of UNESCO's World Memory Register.

An official from the Cultural Foundation said, "This visit is meaningful in that it is the beginning of the resumption of cultural exchanges between Korea and Japan, which had been suspended due to the spread of COVID-19, confirming the will of both sides."
